Financial issues are one of the most common sources of conflict in marriage. In my time working with couples, I’ve seen that couples from all different backgrounds and income levels struggle with this topic of how to manage their finances in a way that is satisfactory to both partners. These financial struggles lead to significant relationship dissatisfaction and sometimes divorce.
Sometimes couples think keeping separate accounts is the key to not fighting about money. But, this rarely turns out to be the case. Couples with separate accounts fight about money just as much, if not more, as those with joint accounts. And, these couples have to work even harder to communicate effectively about money.
Drawing on my background in both accounting/finance and in couples counseling, I work with couples to identify and fill in knowledge gaps, to assess and correct communication issues, and to find a shared vision of their financial future together. My goal is to help you transform money from a divisive issue into something that unites you as you achieve your goals together.
If you’re ready to move from fighting about money to communicating effectively and achieving your financial goals together, contact me to get started.
